Introduction to the Queensland Criminal Courts Jurisdictions

Delivered by Executive Manager at the Queensland Courts, Paul Ramage, this onsite session at the Brisbane Magistrates Court (363 George St, Brisbane 4000) will involve an introduction to the Queensland Criminal Courts Jurisdictions and a Mock Session. As part of the mock, you will be required to read scripts and undertake varying roles within the courts such as a Magistrate, Prosecutor, Defence Council and Defendant as well as using your skills to interpret along the way. This introduction will also include terminology, how a matter gets to court and most importantly Court Protocols and expectations of an Interpreter in Court.

Important to know:

  • Please arrive at least 15 minutes early on the day.
  • Please stay in the foyer after passing security. Paul will meet you there.
  • You will need to enter the court through security. Please do not travel with any sharp objects, as security will confiscate it.
  • Please do not take photos inside the building.
  • You are welcome to watch a real court after the event.
  • You may bring water inside the building. No other drinks or food.
